Remarks: -
In this form it was produced during following years:
1949 Production of the 170 S model began, initially with the factory designation W 136 IV. It is a larger and better equipped version of the 170 V model with the factory designation W 136, also heavily inspired by the model 230 (W 153). Available as limousines and convetibles in A (two-seat, two-door) and B (four-seat, two-door) versions. No ventilation slits on the sides of the hood, instead often two horizontal chrome strips.
1952 Production of the 170 S model with the factory designation W 136 IV has ended. It is replaced by the Mercedes Benz 170 Sb, with its own factory designation W 191. The two models can be distinguished by the transmission lever, the W 136 IV has the lever in the floor and the W 191 at the steering wheel. Also produced since 1953 is the Mercedes 170 S-V and 170 S-D with the W 136 VIII designation. This is an economy version, with the body from the 170 S placed on the aged chassis of the 170 V.
