In this form it was produced during following years:
1979 The start of production of the W 460 model, which marked the beginning of a new series of off-road vehicles for Mercedes. Over time, the series became known as the G-Klasse. It was built as a Mercedes-Benz and as a Puch (e.g., for the Swiss, Austrian and Balkan markets). Previous off-road cars produced by Mercedes were built during World War II. The first 230 G, 280 GE, 240 GD and 300 GD versions were available.
1990 End of production of 280 GE and 300 GD versions. In the same year more luxurious W 463 model was presented.
